Pride is a time of action, not just a time of celebration. Whether you're an ally or part of the LGBTQIA2S+ community, a great first step in creating change is making a donation. Within Canada, there are many indigenous-led organizations working to raise awareness about the specific needs of the indigenous LGBTQIA2S+ community and get those needs fulfilled.
The organizations below are a great place to start. If making a donation is not an option for you at this time, using whatever platform you have to amplify the message of these organizations is also a great way to make sure Pride is a time of actionable, positive change.
From their website: "The 2-Spirit Collective ensures that you have non-judgmental, supportive spaces to get together and explore your identities and what that means to you. We do this through events, ceremony, workshops, and collaborations with other programs, both at UNYA and with other organizations in the community."
From their website: "Our mission is to re-establish and enhance our traditional roles and responsibilities as Two Spirit people in Indigenous communities while creating supportive environments within all societies for contemporary Two Spirit peoples."
From their website: "We are a community-based organization focused on helping Indigenous LGBTQ/Two-Spirit people improve their lives. With the help of our tireless volunteers, we provide awareness workshops, advocate to prevent homophobia and transphobia, and organize community events."
